Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Students in Key Stage 3 study French. At the end of Key Stage 3 most students are entered for the AQA First Certificate in Secondary Education qualification achieving Level 4 (Pass), Level 5 (Merit) or Level 6 (Distinction, which is equivalent to GCSE Grade D), accrediting their Modern Foreign Languages Studies with certification at the end of Year 9.
Students in Key Stage 4 may opt to continue studying French up to GCSE Level. French AS and A Level are available to Sixth Form students at Wolverhampton College.
Students are "banded" in Year 7, 8 and 9, with 3 sets in each band, a top set, middle set and a smaller set where support is more easily targeted. All students have 3 periods of 50 minutes per week. The scheme of work is supported by materials based on the Equipe Course books at Key Stage 3 and Francoscope at Key Stage 4, with many resources produced “in-house” specifically for our students. The Department has developed a wide range of activities for use with the interactive whiteboards available in teaching rooms.
