Little Shop of Horrors (2015)
Our 2015 production was not a universally known choice but proved to be one of the most popular of the modern productions that Coppice has performed. One reason for this was that it was the first time that many of the audience had seen the show and proved to be much better than they had expected. After all, it was a musical comedy about a man-eating plant from outer space that intends to take over the world – possibly not the classic storyline that you are used to watching!
The staging was the most ambitious that had been attempted in the new theatre and did contain an actual ten foot man-eating plant called 'Audrey II'. The plant proved very popular at the end of the evening when parents queued up to take a photograph of their children (and themselves) being eaten. A large enthusiastic cast, as always, performed brilliantly with the leads showing excellent comedy timing as well as singing the songs with just the right amount of believability to make the overall presentation as high in standard as always. There was a particularly strong chorus and lead ensemble of girls that sang us through the storyline with some quite superb harmonies.
