Post 16 - Work Experience
At Coppice we value the role of Work Experience ("WEX") in helping to promote a better understanding of the world of work; we feel that it benefits students in many ways.
During the summer term, Year 12 students embark on one week's Work Experience placement with companies based all over the West Midlands and sometimes further afield. We are keen to ensure that our Year 12 students secure a placement that is of particular interest to them and we ask students and parents to take a pro-active role in finding such placements. At Post 16 placements are expected to link to current areas of study or future career aspirations.
All placements are processed through the Wolverhampton Education Business Partnership (EBP) who carry out Health & Safety and Insurance checks to ensure that all placements are suitable for our students.
It is important that placements are secured as early as possible as they become much more difficult to find as the year goes on. We would recommend that students use their enrichment time between January and May half term to find their placement and ensure that they meet the school's placement deadline.
Post 16 students have a Development and Enrichment session introducing them to Work Experience and giving them the opportunity to learn more about the process. Students are also provided with the various forms and an information booklet that will help them get started:
- Parent Letter
- A Student Guide
- Exemplar letter of request to an employer
- School Request Letter for companies
- Company Confirmation Form
- Parent Confirmation Form
Student also have the opportunity to discuss any WEX related enquiries with the school's Post 16 Work Experience Co-ordinator Mrs Lindlahr or Mr Adamczyk, Head of Sixth Form who are both available to assist throughout the process.
Work Experience is a vital part of Post 16 study and we encourage both students and parents to take a conscientious approach to ensuring this activity is in place. It is solely the responsibility of the student to secure a relevant placement.
